Dr Aamir is a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician with a primary qualification in psychiatry, with more than 20 years of experience in the assessment and management of complex, persistent pain, disability, and comorbid mental health conditions. Dr Aamir’s clinical background spans both psychiatry and pain medicine, providing extensive experience in the biopsychosocial assessment of chronic pain presentations, functional impairment, risk assessment and rehabilitation. Clinical practice includes tertiary pain medicine services, multidisciplinary pain management and independent medico-legal assessments.

Dr Aamir is a Senior Lead Clinician in Pain Medicine at Auckland Hospital and has maintained a longstanding private practice focused on complex pain assessments and medico-legal reporting. Dr Aamir holds governance and educational leadership roles within the Faculty of Pain Medicine and contributes to analgesic policy development through PHARMAC. Dr Aamir has particular interests in the interaction between chronic pain and mental health disorders, complex disability presentations, functional restoration and evidence-based multidisciplinary pain management.
