Dr Christopher Smith is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with over 25 years in cardiothoracic surgery. He specialises in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair and replacement, thoracic aortic surgery, and minimally invasive procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). He has been a key figure in the TAVI program at Greenslopes Private Hospital since its inception and is an Accredited TAVI Practitioner.
Dr Smith graduated from the University of Queensland before completing advanced surgical training in Brisbane at The Prince Charles Hospital and in Melbourne at The Austin. He pursued further expertise through a Postgraduate Fellowship at the University of Virginia Medical Centre in the USA. Upon returning to Australia, he served as a Cardiac Surgeon at Princess Alexandra Hospital and has been with Greenslopes Private Hospital since 2003, where he is now Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Smith is a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, assisting patients in accessing vital medical care. He also consults in Toowoomba and Hervey Bay.
