Dr Van Nieuwenhuysen has been a medical practitioner for 15 years including 7 years as a Specialist Anaesthetist. Dr Van Nieuwenhuysen has special interests in adverse reactions to anaesthesia, anaesthetic agent allergy testing and clinical education. Dr Van Nieuwenhuysen is widely experienced in adult anaesthesia in both the public and private sector. Dr Van Nieuwenhuysen is the founder of Queensland Anaesthetic Reaction Clinic, a specialist clinic dedicated to the investigation of adverse events during anaesthesia including severe allergic (anaphylactic) reactions.

Investigation of peri-operative drug reactions and allergy testing to anaesthetic agents (departmental lead) following episodes of suspected peri-operative anaphylaxis.
